Volunteer Peas

10/08/2013

Yesterday when I went to check on the peas I had left drying on their vines so I could save them for future plantings, I discovered they had already started doing the job for me: I waited too long and I had one pea plant and two pea sprouts from a handful of fallen peas that had dropped from their long dried husks. Since I didn’t want them where they were already starting to grow I transplanted them to where I had recently harvested the garlic: peas will add nitrogen to the soil so will help improve that spot now. I have a bunch more drying that I will fill in with as they are ready.
