Transplanting Lilac Bushes

04/04/2017

Sunday I noticed the first buds on the lilac bushes, which I have been needing to transplant since we put the fence up last summer. I managed to dig three of the four up and moved them into the front garden, in front of the big porch windows. Right now, it all looks kind of random out there: three lilac bushes in a row followed by a… hydrangea? But two more hydrangeas, which used to be where the lilacs are now, proceed down the fence line after the one next to the lilacs…. I wanted the lilacs closer to the windows than the street, so the too short but glorious time when they’re in bloom the fragrance might waft inside. I don’t know why as I’ll probably end up cutting most of the blooms anyway like I usually do: better for the shrub and who can resist?!
