The raspberries are definitely early, as I remember always eating the very first early few on the morning of the Fourth and by now I’ve probably harvested at least a pint of the reds over the past few days; the black raspberries just started ripening this morning. I think the early blueberries may have given us a rare one or two now but for the whole bush to be ripening already seems very early. And Berkeley, who we got because we were told was later and would ripen in August, is now finished by August usually. That said, we just can’t keep them far enough from the sumacs so perhaps the struggle to resist their incessant native roots are forcing them to ripen early but somehow after the mild winter we had this year I don’t think that’s the case. This time.
